Security Cameras / CCTVThe idea that security cameras are expensive and unnecessary to a first-rate home security system is a myth. We are used to seeing security cameras at various grocery and convenient stores and automatically assume that they are not well within our pecuniary range and fairly impractical for most security systems. However, nothing can be farther from the truth.
When dealing with a home security system, security cameras will play a significant role in completing the system. Most security systems include the essential window / door contacts and motion detectors. These sensors work wonders in alerting you to the presence of an intruder. However, in the event that an intruder actually breaks in and vandalizes or steals your property, you want to be able to identify or give evidence to law enforcement officials of the intrusion.
A Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), which is the security camera system, provides evidence to you and others of a breach of security. Within the CCTV, there are three parts: the cameras, the coaxial cable, and the TV. These three pieces make up the CCTV. The cameras capture the identity of the intruder and send the information through the cable (if the camera is wireless, then it sends the information by radio frequency) to the TV.
Other peripherals or accessories, such as swivel, tilt, and zoom lenses, recorders, motion detectors, controllers, and switchers, make the system more effective in its job. The most important accessory is the recorder. The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is the part of the system that will record any activity within the cameras range. The DVR, when connected to the CCTV, provides the necessary information for catching the criminal: facial features, license plate, character traits, etc.
CCTV is not merely for security. Other practical applications can be anything from safety to recreational. With a CCTV, you can monitor your children playing in the back yard, your infant’s room, or your front door to see who is coming to the door. The system can also be used to watch for wildlife. The functions of a CCTV are endless. It can be a live fed system or a recorded, a security system or recreational. Your use for the system depends on your desires.
