Access Control

When we think of access control, we often think of highly complicated and technical devices. But little do we realize that simple locks and keys, passwords, and garage door openers are forms of access control that we use on a daily level. By a very basic definition, access control, whether being a door key or a Biometric Hand Reader, is the regulation over who enters or exits various localities.

Access control raises your home security system to a whole new level of efficiency and accessibility. Just as access control on computers allows certain people to enter certain areas on a computer, home security access control permits specific people to enter specific zones of your house. Access control systems can be easily integrated into an already existing security system giving you full control of over who has the right to use your home or office.

Furthermore, access control systems provide you with information a normal lock and key cannot. With a conventional lock, anyone with a key can enter or exit an area at anytime and as often as desired. However, with an access control system, entries and exits are recorded. Some devices even permit access to specific zones only at specific times. This gives you the information that may become important to your personal security.

Access control works on various levels of information and accessibility. Besides the common lock and key, there are multiple kinds of access control systems that upgrade your home security. Most people are familiar with identity cards. These are the most popular form of access control. Another common form of access control is the keypad, which is controlled by codes. The possibility of losing cards or having codes passed around creates problems for the complete security of these systems.

By using biological variances between humans, biometric access control is more reliable and foolproof than the older forms of access control with keypads or card readers. Biometric technology utilizes the differences in facial features, hand patterns, or fingerprints to establish the most efficient access control. Since it is virtually impossible to find similar features or prints, biometric access control makes unauthorized entry, without breaking down a door, virtually impossible.

While access control is applicable to home security, especially for specific rooms, such as a home office, where controlled access is highly important to your security and to others, access control finds itself most applicable in commercial or industrial settings. Access control systems can be used to make certain that only authorized employees have access to specific and classified areas. Biometric systems help eliminate the cost of identification or access cards as well as aid in preventing password information from being leaked or access cards from being stolen, reproduced, or lost.

Also on a commercial or industrial level, access control devices can replace timecards. Because access control systems record actual time that a person logs in or out of a certain zone, these devices provide accurate and reliable information on an employee’s entrance or exit for work.

Now more than just a key, a keypad, or a keyfob, access control devices help to customize your home security systems according to your desires for your home and personal security. Access control eliminates the fear of stolen or duplicated keys or radio frequency signals, or appropriated or reproduced passwords or codes. Whether it is just allowing only certain people to enter your home or knowing who, and at what time people, are entering, access control systems place the right of entry in your hands.

When you install a home security system, one of the key issues you ought to consider is a monitored system versus a non-monitored system. The question is about response.
