DVR Cards

Many of us are familiar with the extremely convenient digital camera memory cards or USB drives. In fact, they prove that the old saying “bigger is not always better” holds especially true today. We have seen the massive and sluggish computers of yesterday be transformed into speedy and minuscule devices of today. Through such technologies as the DVR (Digital Video Record) and the DVR card, home security surveillance systems are quickly following the “smaller is better” mentality.

The compression of information into smaller areas by the use of digital technology has allowed security surveillance to do away with the antiquated VCR’s and replace them with the more advanced DVR’s. But even more importantly, instead of purchasing specially design DVR’s, the newer DVR Cards provide a more novel and more accessible way of recording surveillance video information. DVR Cards are computer boards or video capture cards that can be installed in your PC.

The PC-Based DVR has the same advantages as the Non-PC-Based DVR with the exception of channels available to the PC-Based DVR. While a Non-PC-Based DVR has a set number of channels, the PC-Based has the ability to be expandable, which means that more channels or more cameras may be added to the PC-Based to expand the system. This benefit is, however, not applicable to the Non-PC-Based DVR. However, a non-PC-Based DVR may be connected to another DVR, but you cannot merely add on another board. You have to add on a whole new system.

The advantage that a Non-PC-Based DVR has over the PC-Based is its dependability in harsher environments. The casings enable them to stand up to a more severe atmosphere, such as restaurants or industrial zones, basically any place that does not have the ease of the office surroundings.

DVR cards provide secure and convenient filing of recorded surveillance. Videotapes are too bulky and too often prone to degradation to be utilized for long-term surveillance records. Also a Non-PC-Based DVR may be overly expensive for your personal use. These make the DVR card a perfect substitute for either system.

With DVR cards working within your PC, surveillance cameras become even more effective for gathering and saving criminal activity. The almost infinite space and the superiority of its digital technology makes the DVR card a valuable accessory to surveillance recording.
